PROJECT OVERVIEW
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)-Koraput is the oldest KVK of our state established in the year 1982 at Koraput, under the administrative control of Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar. Krishi Vigyan Kendra is the district level frontline agricultural extension institute dedicated for the integrated development of the farming community of district through single window delivery of technology and technological products. The vision is to make agriculture more productive and profitable through bridging the gap between technology generation and adoption in the district which comes under the Easter Ghat High Land Zoneand Southern Eastern Ghat Zone Nearly, 83% depends upon agriculture. The soil and climate in the District are favourable for talking up of agro horticultural activities. The suitability of soil and climatic condition for production of coffee, cashew, cotton, tobacco, vegetable and fruits and the production of these crops strengthen the economy of the Koraput District. The common annual food crops grown in the District are paddy, millet, maize and pulses. Hence, a holistic agricultural development is highly essential to ensure livelihood security of the population. KVK, Koraput has introduced many frontier technologies, developed location specific technologies through refinement and validation, upgraded the knowledge and skill of practicing farmers, farm women and rural youth on improved farm practices through its mandatory activities. This institute has also promoted some of the off-farm enterprises like mushroom cultivation, beekeeping, nursery raising, processing and value addition, backyard poultry among the rural youths and farm women for providing better income opportunities through gainful employment. Besides, KVK has also played a key role in providing technological backstopping to the state extension department functionaries of agriculture and allied sector through organizing in- service training programmes, joint diagnostic visits and interactions, farmers participatory research etc.,
